Pumpkin Face

Today I brought in a painted wood pumpkin and a bunch of paper cut out face pieces. Each piece had a song title on it. The kids got to pick a piece of the face to put on the pumpkin and then we sang the song. Really easy and the kids had fun.

Leading Apples

Last week I took a bunch of cut out apples and wrote different songs on each of the apples and their time signature. I brought a pie dish for them to put their apples in after they picked them. Then each kid had to wear the apron and used a wooden spoon to lead the music. It was a good teaching tool. The kids had fun learning to lead the music. I think that they realized it was harder work than it looks.

General Conference Idea

Our Program was last week and the kids did awesome! I was so happy and so proud of them. They sounded like angels and even made me cry. After the Program for Singing Time we did a General Conference Theme. I found the idea on a few websites, but I don't remember where. I copied pictures of all the members of the Quorum of the 12 and also the first Presidency. Then I wrote a little bit of what their talk was about on the back and a song that went a long with it. I just had the kids pick a picture, talked to them for a minute about what their talk was about and then sang the correlating song. It turned out pretty well.

Treat Box

Today is the last day we practice for the Program in the Primary Room. The next two Sundays we will be in the chapel. I covered a shoe box with wrapping paper and ribbons. I also have a tag with each of the songs on them. Every song they pass off we will cut off the ribbon with that tag. Then if they pass them all of they can have a treat that I have inside the box.

Mystery Box

I found this idea somewhere. I can't remember where. Sorry. The kids loved it though. I took a large box and covered it with cute paper. Then I filled it with a few items from home that represented each song we have learned for the Program. I blindfolded the kids and let them pick something out of the box. Then they had to pick which song went with each item.

I know that my Savior loves me - A heart shaped cookie cutter
He Sent His Son- Baby Jesus from a Manger scene
Follow the Prophet- Ensign with President Monson on the front
When I am Baptized- Rainbow yarn
The Holy Ghost- An ear from our Mr. Potato Head
Come Follow Me- A Sandal
The Church of Jesus Christ- A Missionary Tag

The kids had a lot of fun. I think I will do this activity again sometime!

Back to School

I found an idea on Sugardoodle that we used for singing time today. I got some pencils and on the bottom I wrote a number on a few of them. The kids got to pick a pencil. If it had a number on it we sang the correlating song. If it didn't we just kept picking. It worked out pretty well and the kids all got a new pencil to start school off with tomorrow.

Who What How

Today we did another review idea that I found somewhere I can't remember. I am going to have to pay more attention. Sorry. Anyway, I had 3 cans that I covered with cute paper. On one I had written "Who", and the other two said, "What" and 'How". Then I had all the songs we were going to review in the "what" can. It was a fun review. Some of the other things said blue eyes, those wearing green, whisper sing, eyes closed, etc.

Rainbow Colors

We learned "When I am Baptized" in August. The kids have done really well with it. Last week I saw an idea that we did to review it. I can't remember where I found it though. Sorry.
I took 6 cups and filled them with a little water and vinegar. Then I had 6 spoons with a different color drop of food coloring on each one. Then I covered the food coloring with baking soda. On the chalk board I had written the words to the song and each phrase was written in a different color of chalk. A reverent helper picked a spoon and stirred it into the glass. Whatever color the water changed is the colored phrase we erased. The kids loved it and we were able to repeat the song quite a bit.

Making Butter

For Singing time I got an idea off of Sugardoodle. I got a bunch of film canisters from Walgreens and put a little bit of cream in each one. I am going to have a picture of the Nauvoo temple and a picture of the Salt Lake Temple on the board. I have a bunch of pictures of little covered wagons. On the back of each wagon is a song from the Primary Program. I am going to have the kids pick a wagon and they have to sing that song til they pass it off. Once they do, it goes on the "Wagon Trail." They have to pass them all off before the wagons can make it to the Salt Lake Valley. On Songs like "Follow the Prophet" I made a wagon with each verse.
As the kids sing, they get to shake their cream and hopefully they will make butter. On each wagon along with each song is also a way to shake their butter. (Over their head, right hand, left hand, behind their back, etc.) I am going to bring some rolls too, so that they can take home them and eat their butter on them. Hopefully the kids will enjoy it. I think it will be fun.

Find the Covered Wagon

Today we are going to be reviewing "Come Follow Me." I have a picture of a covered wagon I am going to hide. Then we are going to play Hot and Cold. One kid will go out into the hall while the other kids hide the wagon. The kids will sing louder the closer the child gets to finding the wagon, and quieter the further away the child gets. I hope it will be a fun way for them to repeat the song over and over again and hopefully learn it really well.

4th of July Sparklers

I made some cute little fourth of July sparklers out of pipe cleaners for all the kids. I plan to have them help me lead the music with them. I am going to teach the kids "My Flag, My Flag," and we are going to Review the Program songs. I also made a chart with all the songs listed. I am going to have the Presidency and the Teachers help me decide how many star stickers the kids earned by singing each one. I will place that many star stickers on the chart. I am hoping this will help us see which songs need more work.

Test and a Review

Tomorrow I plan on testing the kids on their knowledge of "The Holy Ghost." I shuffled up all the pictures I made to learn the song. I am going to divide them into groups and see if they can put them in the right order. If they can, then we will play a game.
I have a little basket with about 6 little balls in it. They will get a turn to toss the balls into the bucket. However many they make into the bucket is how many notes the pianist will play. Then they have to guess which song it is. I think I will only have the songs from the program for right now. I want to get a feel for how many of the songs they know and which ones need a little work.

Father's Day

For Father's Day I am planning on reviewing all of the songs that the kids have learned so far for the sacrament program. I attached a song to a tie. I am going to hide the ties all over the primary room and have the kids find them. On a couple of ties I also attached a "sing your favorite song." I hope it turns out fun and that the kids enjoy it.

Singing Time in a Can

Today we spent the time repeating the Father's Day Songs we will be singing in Sacrament Meeting next week, and "The Holy Ghost." I tried to make it fun by having a can full of ways to sing the song, like" only girls, only boys, those wearing red, blue, etc, sing to the ceiling, turn around and sing, wisper, sing and sway, etc. I think it went pretty well. I am hoping that they weren't to bored with it. They seems to know the songs a little better.

The Holy Ghost

Last Sunday I taught the kids the song The Holy Ghost.
I started out by whispering "If you can hear me touch your nose, If you can hear me touch your head, if you can hear me reverently fold your arms." The kids followed my instructions and I told them that if we listen carefully we can listen to the Holy Ghost and follow his instructions even though it is a still small voice. Then I had the pianist play it through once while we clapped the beat. Then I told the kids that the beat was steady and constant just like the Holy Ghost. He will be our constant companion as long as we are worthy.
Then we learned the words. It went pretty well. I just found pictures on the web and also from the Friend and put them in page protectors. Then I put them all in a binder and just turned the pages as the kids sang.

My First Day

Today was my first day. I wasn't really sure what to do, so I decided just to introduce myself and try to get to know the children. I brought a Treasure Box with me and filled it with things about me. On each object was a song that sort of went with the item. I had reverent helpers come pick an item out of my Treasure Box and then had them tell me something about them.
Some of the items I had were:

Blue Crayon- Primary colors
Lighthouse- Teach me to walk in the Light
Photo of my Kids- A Happy Family
Photo of my Husband- Families Can Be Together Forever
etc.

I think it went well. I am excited for this new calling!

My New Calling

Wow, I got a new calling as the Primary Chorister. I am really nervous, but also really excited. I am planning on keeping track of fun ideas that work so I can magnify this calling to the best of my ability.
